Problem

  1. Lucas TVS Limited’ production division is located in Padi, Chennai and this area is a naturally hot area.
  2. The production process is done with the help of machinery which is frequently run in production shops and workshops so that increase heat and this can lead to discomfort, loss of concentration, irritation, and fatigue.
  3. Management decided to install HVLS fans for all issues like air blockage, inconvenience to the workers

Solution

  • Epoch 2.0, 24-ft (3 blades) 04 Fans was installed with the following specifications ;
    • Motor: Epoch 2.0;
    • Coverage Area: 17000 Sq. Ft. (1578 Sq. m);
    • Speed: 52 RPM;
    • Peak Power: 1.1kW/1.5 hp;
  • Epoch 2.0, 24-ft Fan is Quiet, efficient operation and virtually maintenance free

Site Survey

A site survey is mandatory before any HVLS fan recommendation. The survey revealed the following dimensions:

  • Total Area: 200 Ft X 40 Ft = 8,000‬ Sq.Ft.
  • Floor to Ceiling Distance: 15 to 20 Ft,
  • In this case, we chose to go with a 24-ft fan.

Test Reports

Three test reports are collected for each fan installation as follows:

Power Consumption Report

Power consumption report captures the real as well as apparent power. Epoch HVLS fans are the only fans in the world to have active power factor correction and unity power factor. Therefore the Watts (Real Power) and VARs (the apparent power) are almost the same. The power has been captured at 20, 30, 40, and 52 RPM. Power drawn at those speeds are 290, 390, 500 and 648 W respectively. The chart above also shows trend lines generated using Excel for real and apparent power to take into account any measurement errors as fan power consumption can be modeled by well known equations.

Input Current Report

The input current is also measured at 20, 30, 40, and 52 RPM. Input current is recorded as 1.54, 1.9, 2.8 and 3.12 A respectively. The input voltage varied from 230 to 240V during the measurement.

Air Flow Report.

The airflow is measured from the center of the fan and is recorded at every 3-ft distance. Values were recorded upto 27-ft from the center of the fan. The values were respectively, 161, 287, 383, 393, 444, 417, 482, 503, 594, and 482- ft/min at distances of 3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24, 27 and 30-ft respectively.
