Problem

  1. Voltas Beko is a part of the Tata Group and manufactures refrigerators, washing machines and other home appliances.
  2. The summer season in Gujarat becomes extremely hot as temperatures can reach about 49°C, making working conditions difficult.
  3. Employees working in such environments experience extreme discomfort which can lead to vomiting, weakness, and fatigue.
  4. The client required a solution that would create an effective, energy-efficient and comfortable working zone for employees.

Solution

  • Epoch 3.0 24-ft HVLS fan was installed with the following specifications:
    • Motor : Epoch 3.0
    • Coverage Area : 30,000 Sq. Ft. (2,787 Sq. m)
    • Speed : 62 RPM
    • Peak Power : 1.5 kW / 2 hp
  • Epoch 3.0 24-ft fans are highly popular for their powerful airflow and high efficiency in industrial environments.

Site Survey

A site survey is mandatory before any HVLS fan recommendation. The survey revealed the following dimensions:

  • Total Area : 341 m × 121 m = 41,261 Sq. m
  • Floor to Ceiling Distance : 12 – 15 m
  • Rule of thumb : Distance / 1.5 ≈ fan diameter
  • Selected Fan Size : 24-ft HVLS fan

Test Reports

Three test reports are collected for each fan installation.

Power Consumption Report

Power consumption captures both real and apparent power. Epoch HVLS fans include active power factor correction with near-unity power factor. Power measured at 30, 40, 50 and 60 RPM was 170 W, 340 W, 842 W and 1240 W respectively.

Input Current Report

Input current measured at 30, 40, 50 and 60 RPM was 0.9 A, 1.71 A, 3.04 A and 5.1 A respectively. Input voltage during testing varied between 230 V and 240 V.

Air Flow Report

Airflow was measured from the center of the fan at every 3-ft distance up to 30-ft. Recorded airflow values were 216, 278, 334, 354, 453, 345, 334, 374, 374 and 354 ft/min.
