Problem
- Stovekraft India is manufacturer of kitchen appliances in India.
- Physical and mental comfort is essential to get the best results from employees. However, the Stovekraft industrial shop had issues related to air ventilation and hot weather.
- The heat in the shop caused the atmosphere to become hot and humid. Workers were disturbed by the hot weather conditions and improper ventilation caused staff to feel overwhelmed.
- To improve air comfort, Stovekraft India decided to install HVLS fans in their shop.
- Since their shop had a dome-shaped ceiling, no HVLS fan company was able to provide a solution. Falco’s engineering team provided a customized solution and installed HVLS fans on the dome-shaped ceiling.
Solution
- Epoch 3.0, 24-ft – 19 Fans installed with the following specifications:
- Motor : Epoch 3.0
- Coverage Area : 30,000 Sq. Ft. (2,787 Sq. m)
- Speed : 62 RPM
- Peak Power : 1.5 kW / 2 hp
- Epoch 3.0 24-ft fans are among the most popular HVLS fans with powerful airflow and high airflow efficiency.
A site survey is mandatory before recommending any HVLS fan installation. The survey revealed the following dimensions:
- Total Area : 120 m × 108 m = 12,980 Sq. m
- Floor to Ceiling Distance : 35 – 40 ft
- Fan Diameter Rule : Distance / 1.5 gives approximate fan diameter
- Recommended Fan : 24-ft HVLS Fan
Three test reports are collected for each fan installation as follows:
Power Consumption Report
Power consumption report captures both real power and apparent power. Epoch HVLS fans are equipped with active power factor correction and unity power factor.
Therefore the Watts (real power) and VARs (apparent power) are almost identical.
The power was measured at speeds of 22, 32, 42, 52 and 62 RPM.
Power consumption values recorded were 122 W, 207 W, 423 W, 710 W and 1174 W respectively.
Trend lines generated using Excel were also included to account for measurement variations since fan power consumption can be modeled using known equations.
Input Current Report
Input current was measured at 22, 32, 42, 52 and 62 RPM.
Current values recorded were 0.57 A, 0.92 A, 1.9 A, 3.1 A and 5.11 A respectively.
Input voltage varied between 230 V and 240 V during the measurements.
Air Flow Report
Airflow was measured from the center of the fan and recorded every 3 ft up to 30 ft.
Recorded airflow values were 511, 531, 551, 431, 492, 472, 433, 392, 374 and 314 ft/min at distances of 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27 and 30 ft respectively.
