Problem

  1. Stauff India Pvt Ltd manufactures pipework equipment and hydraulic components.
  2. The workshop shed is made of steel structure which causes high temperature and humidity during summer.
  3. Workers experience heat-related issues such as heat stroke, heat exhaustion and heat stress.
  4. Employees feel uncomfortable working in these conditions which affects productivity.
  5. To improve the working environment, the company decided to install HVLS fans.

Solution

  • Two Epoch 2.0 12-ft HVLS fans were installed with the following specifications:
    • Motor : Epoch 2.0
    • Coverage Area : 7,000 Sq. Ft. (650 Sq. m)
    • Speed : 130 RPM
    • Peak Power : 1.1 kW / 1.5 hp
  • Epoch 12-ft fans deliver strong airflow and high efficiency improving comfort across the shop floor.

Site Survey

A site survey is mandatory before any HVLS fan recommendation. The survey revealed the following dimensions:

  • Total Area : 157.5 ft × 55.8 ft = 8,788 Sq. Ft.
  • Floor to Ceiling Distance : 18 – 20 ft
  • Rule of thumb : Distance / 1.5 ≈ fan diameter
  • Recommended Fan Size : 12-ft HVLS fan

Test Reports

Three test reports are collected for each fan installation.

Power Consumption Report

Power consumption captures both real and apparent power. Epoch HVLS fans feature active power factor correction and near-unity power factor. Power measured at 90, 100, 110, 120 and 130 RPM was 410 W, 530 W, 680 W, 820 W and 980 W respectively.

Input Current Report

Input current measured at 90, 100, 110, 120 and 130 RPM was 1.9 A, 2.2 A, 2.8 A, 3.6 A and 4.2 A respectively. Input voltage during testing varied between 230 V and 240 V.

Air Flow Report

Airflow measured from the center of the fan at every 3-ft distance up to 30-ft. Recorded airflow values were 290, 358, 433, 460, 420, 410, 354, 330, 290 and 250 ft/min.
