Problem

  1. GAPL manufactures Rectified Spirit and Extra Neutral Alcohol from grain and molasses.
  2. During operation machines generate heat which increases air temperature inside the facility. Normal domestic ceiling fans did not cover the entire shop premises.
  3. The workshop shed is packed on all sides which restricts airflow and increases discomfort for workers.
  4. Workers were unable to work comfortably which affected focus and productivity.
  5. To improve working conditions, the management decided to install HVLS fans.

Solution

  • Four Epoch 2.0 16-ft HVLS Fans were installed with the following specifications:
    • Motor : Epoch 2.0
    • Coverage Area : 12,000 Sq. Ft. (1,114 Sq. m)
    • Speed : 95 RPM
    • Peak Power : 1.1 kW / 1.5 hp
  • Epoch 16-ft five-blade HVLS fans provide cost-effective cooling and massive air movement across the shop floor.

Site Survey

A site survey is mandatory before any HVLS fan recommendation. The survey revealed the following dimensions:

  • Total Area : 115 ft × 112 ft = 12,880 Sq. Ft.
  • Floor to Ceiling Distance : 24 – 27 ft
  • Rule of thumb : Distance / 1.5 ≈ fan diameter
  • Selected Fan Size : 16-ft HVLS fan

Test Reports

Three test reports are collected for each fan installation.

Power Consumption Report

Power consumption captures both real and apparent power. Epoch HVLS fans feature active power factor correction and near-unity power factor. Power measured at 55, 65, 75, 85 and 95 RPM was 330 W, 560 W, 670 W, 820 W and 980 W respectively.

Input Current Report

Input current measured at 55, 65, 75, 85 and 95 RPM was 0.89 A, 1.7 A, 2.9 A, 3.8 A and 4.7 A respectively. Input voltage during testing varied between 230 V and 240 V.

Air Flow Report

Airflow measured from the center of the fan at every 3-ft distance up to 30-ft. Recorded airflow values were 370, 390, 420, 490, 520, 595, 570, 490, 310 and 290 ft/min.
