Problem
- Elkayem Auto Ancillaries has become a well-known industrial equipment shop in Hosur with processing, forging, machining and assembly facilities. The facility itself has low insulation.
- Hot working conditions in summer and cold conditions in winter reduce employee comfort levels and affect productivity.
- Heat, moisture and stagnant air are frequently encountered problems in the production shop and negatively impact working conditions.
- The company decided to install an industrial HVLS fan to provide relief in these conditions.
Solution
- Epoch 2.0 18-ft HVLS fan installed with the following specifications:
- Motor : Epoch 2.0
- Coverage Area : 15,000 Sq. Ft. (1,393 Sq. m)
- Speed : 75 RPM
- Peak Power : 1.1 kW / 1.5 hp
- The Epoch 2.0 18-ft diameter HVLS fan provides powerful airflow and high airflow efficiency across the facility.
Site Survey
A site survey is mandatory before any HVLS fan recommendation. The survey revealed the following dimensions:
- Total Area : 150 ft × 60 ft = 9,000 Sq. Ft.
- Floor to Ceiling Distance : 25 – 28 ft
- Rule of thumb : Distance / 1.5 ≈ fan diameter
- Selected Fan Size : 18-ft HVLS fan
Test Reports
Three test reports are collected for each fan installation.
Power Consumption Report
Power consumption captures both real and apparent power. Epoch HVLS fans feature active power factor correction and near-unity power factor. Power measured at 35, 45, 55, 65 and 75 RPM was 280 W, 330 W, 499 W, 877 W and 1020 W respectively.
Input Current Report
Input current measured at 35, 45, 55, 65 and 75 RPM was 0.42 A, 1.35 A, 2.4 A, 3.96 A and 4.7 A respectively. Input voltage during testing varied between 230 V and 240 V.
Air Flow Report
Airflow was measured from the center of the fan at every 3-ft distance up to 27-ft. Recorded airflow values were 216, 236, 452, 551, 689, 590, 452 and 346 ft/min.
