Problem

  1. East Hooghly Polyplast manufactures and exports a wide range of tarpaulin used in multiple applications.
  2. The company wanted to provide a comfortable and productive environment for employees and machines.
  3. However employees complained about very hot or very cold conditions inside the production facility.
  4. Insufficient air circulation created temperature differences across the shop floor which affected worker comfort and productivity.
  5. The company needed a solution that improves comfort without compromising energy efficiency.
  6. They struggled to find an effective solution to eliminate hot and cold spots.

Solution

  • Epoch 2.0 16-ft HVLS fan was installed with the following specifications:
    • Motor : Epoch 2.0
    • Coverage Area : 12,000 Sq. Ft. (1,114 Sq. m)
    • Speed : 95 RPM
    • Peak Power : 1.1 kW / 1.5 hp
  • The Epoch 16-ft five-bladed HVLS fan provides cost-effective cooling and massive air movement across the production floor.

Site Survey

A site survey is mandatory before any HVLS fan recommendation. The survey revealed the following dimensions:

  • Total Area : 85 ft × 35 ft = 2,975 Sq. Ft.
  • Floor to Ceiling Distance : 24 – 27 ft
  • Rule of thumb : Distance / 1.5 ≈ fan diameter
  • Selected Fan Size : 16-ft HVLS fan

Test Reports

Three test reports are collected for each fan installation.

Power Consumption Report

Power consumption captures both real and apparent power. Epoch HVLS fans feature active power factor correction and near-unity power factor. Power measured at 55, 65, 75, 85 and 95 RPM was 394 W, 582 W, 695 W, 857 W and 996 W respectively.

Input Current Report

Input current measured at 55, 65, 75, 85 and 95 RPM was 1.7 A, 2.6 A, 3.0 A, 3.9 A and 4.8 A respectively. Input voltage during testing varied between 230 V and 240 V.

Air Flow Report

Airflow was measured from the center of the fan at every 3-ft distance up to 27-ft. Recorded airflow values were 310, 334, 394, 491, 520, 456, 460, 368 and 356 ft/min.
