Problem

  1. The Exhibition Hall at Nehru Science Centre is used for exhibitions of Government science projects and student science projects.
  2. Large numbers of visitors attend exhibitions which blocks airflow and increases heat inside the hall.
  3. Such arrangements create significant airflow obstruction causing discomfort to visitors.
  4. Air conditioning was outside the budget so the technical officials looked for an alternative cooling solution.

  • Epoch 2.0 – 14-ft HVLS fans (03 units) were installed.

Site Survey

A site survey is mandatory before recommending HVLS fan installation. The survey revealed the following dimensions.

  • Total Area : 183 ft × 48 ft = 8,784 sq.ft
  • Ceiling Height : 20–24 ft
  • Fan Diameter Rule : Distance / 1.5
  • Recommended Fan Size : 14-ft
Test Reports

Power Consumption Report

Power consumption captures both real and apparent power. Epoch HVLS fans feature active power factor correction and operate close to unity power factor. Measurements were taken at 80, 90, 100, 110 and 120 RPM. Power consumption values were 330 W, 420 W, 575 W, 790 W and 920 W respectively.

Input Current Report

Input current was measured at 80, 90, 100, 110 and 120 RPM. Recorded values were 1.4 A, 1.9 A, 2.4 A, 3 A and 3.8 A respectively while supply voltage varied between 230 V and 240 V.

Air Flow Report

Airflow measurements were taken every 3 ft from the fan center up to 30 ft. Recorded airflow values ranged between 590 ft/min near the center and 340 ft/min at the farthest measurement point.
