Key Facts
  • Direct Drive PMSM Motor
  • Lowest Weight
  • Active Power Factor Corrected
  • Industry: Industrial
  • Location: India
  • Product: Epoch 20-ft 5-Blades 60 RPM HVLS Fan with Epoch 2.0 Motor and Controller – 90Nm / 1.1kW / 1.5 hp

Problem

  1. The atrium in Tapesia campus of Don Bosco University is located in the center of the building and openings at lower levels are not available.
  2. The atrium design uses natural ventilation but in summer it fills with warm air from adjoining storeys. The air gets further heated by direct solar radiation causing discomfort to occupants.
  3. Air movement in this space is driven mainly by recirculation rather than direct wind flow.

Solution

  • Epoch 2.0 – 20-ft fans (02 units) were installed.
  • Motor : Epoch 2.0
  • Coverage Area : 18,000 sq.ft (1,672 sq.m)
  • Speed : 60 RPM
  • Peak Power : 1.1 kW / 1.5 hp
  • Epoch 2.0 is one of the most popular HVLS fans known for high airflow efficiency.
Site Survey

A site survey is mandatory before recommending any HVLS fan installation. The survey revealed the following dimensions and helped determine the appropriate fan size.

  • Total Area : 130 ft × 60 ft = 7,800 sq.ft
  • Ceiling Height : 30–35 ft
  • Fan Diameter Selection Rule : Distance / 1.5
  • Recommended Fan Size : 20-ft
Test Reports

Power Consumption Report

Power consumption was measured at 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 RPM. Recorded power values were 440 W, 560 W, 690 W, 877 W and 970 W respectively. Epoch HVLS fans include active power factor correction and operate close to unity power factor.

Input Current Report

Input current measurements at 20–60 RPM were 1.9 A, 2.97 A, 3.24 A, 3.98 A and 4.8 A respectively. The input voltage varied between 230 V and 240 V during testing.

Air Flow Report

Airflow measurements were taken every 3 ft from the center of the fan up to 33 ft. Recorded airflow ranged from 197 ft/min near the center to 160 ft/min at the farthest measurement point.
