Problem:

  1. Lucas TVS Limited’ production division is located in Padi, Chennai and this area is a naturally hot area.
  2. The production process is done with the help of machinery which is frequently run in production shops and workshops so that increase heat and this can lead to discomfort, loss of concentration, irritation, and fatigue.

  3. Management decided to install HVLS fans for all issues like air blockage, inconvenience to the workers.

Solution:

  • Epoch 2.0, 24-ft (3 blades) 04 Fans was installed with the following specifications ;
    • Motor: Epoch 2.0;
    • Coverage Area: 17000 Sq. Ft. (1578 Sq. m);
    • Speed: 52 RPM;
    • Peak Power: 1.1kW/1.5 hp;
  • Epoch 2.0, 24-ft Fan is Quiet, efficient operation  and virtually maintenance free.

Site Survey:

A site survey is mandatory before any HVLS fan recommendation. The survey revealed the following dimensions:

  • Total Area: 200 Ft X 40 Ft = 8,000‬ Sq.Ft.
  • Floor to Ceiling Distance: 15 to 20 Ft,
  • In this case, we chose to go with a 24-ft fan.

Test Reports:

Three test reports are collected for each fan installation as follows:

  1. Power Consumption Report;
  2. Input Current Report;
  3. Air Flow Report.

Those reports are shown for this site:

                                            lucas-tvs-ltd-4-.png

Power consumption report captures the real as well as apparent power. Epoch HVLS fans are the only fans in the world to have active power factor correction and unity power factor. Therefore the Watts (Real Power) and VARs (the apparent power) are almost the same. The power has been captured at 20, 30, 40, and 52 RPM. Power drawn at those speeds are 290, 390, 500, 648W respectively. The chart above also shows trend lines generated using Excel for real and apparent power to take into account any measurement errors as fan power consumption can be modeled by well known equations.

                                            lucas-tvs-ltd-5-.png

The input current is also measured at 20, 30, 40, and 52 RPM. Input current is recorded as 1.54, 1.9, 2.8, and 3.12A respectively. The input voltage varied from 240 to 243V during the measurement.

                                            lucas-tvs-ltd-6-.png

The airflow is measured from the center of the fan and is recorded at every 3-ft distance. Values were recorded upto 30-ft from the center of the fan. The values were respectively, 161, 287, 383, 393, 444, 417, 482, 503, 594, 482 ft/min at distances of 3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24,27 and 30-ft respectively.

Estimated Yearly Savings while Using Epoch HVLS Fans

                                            lucas-tvs-ltd-7-.png

Epoch 24-ft fan was compared against Indian HVLS fan Manufacturer. Based on their data sheet, daily, monthly and yearly power consumption and costs were calculated. An Epoch HVLS fan will save the end user anywhere from $1,894 to $6,905 per year over any competitive brands because of its unique technology.
